Dear Parents/Guardians
and all AOHT Community Members,
With Spring Break
beginning tomorrow, I want to welcome you to the final stretch of the 2007-2008
school year!
I am proud to reflect on
some of our accomplishments this year.
·
We doubled in
size!
·
We received
an absolutely glowing report from insideschools.org.
·
Students have
attended 30 job-shadowing, career-exploring events (we had sixteen for the
whole 2006-2007 school year) Thank you
Ms. Francis and Ms. Flannery!
·
Our business
program has located its central office and conference room where students will
benefit from mock interviews, boardroom meetings and business plan writing
sessions.
·
Our students
met Sanford Weil, former Chairman of Citigroup, Andrei Agassi, former
professional tennis champion, Tiki Barber, former New
York Giant and current sports broadcaster, and Marty Markowitz, Brooklyn
Borough President, at the National Academy Foundation’s Gala fundraising event
in
·
Our students
prepared for and participated in our 4th Semi-Annual Share Fair – thank you to
all of our teachers and Ms. Silberman, Principal of
Automotive High School!
·
Ms. Rebecca
Wallace-Segall became our school’s Writing
Teacher-in-Residence guiding our 9th grade students in a memoir
writing project that will end in a professionally published book.
·
We launched
our “Teacher Pages” section of our school website so that teachers can post
homework assignments.
·
AOHT received
a donation from The Village Voice Choice Eats event on March 11, 2008 –
thank you Ms. Boyd!
·
We
successfully appealed our Progress Report and had it changed to reflect our
real successes at AOHT. Feel free to
view our new Progress Report at:

If it wasn’t for the hard
work of our students, teachers, parents, support staff, administration,
corporate partners and our partnerships with the National Academy Foundation
and New Visions for Public Schools, the list above wouldn’t be possible. I must also add this – those accomplishments
listed above would not have been possible without one other major success – the
great work done by all of our teachers and students in our school’s
classrooms! I firmly believe that if it
isn’t “happening” in our classrooms, it wouldn’t be “happening” anywhere else.
I look forward to seeing
you at our next Parent Association Meeting on Wednesday May 14, 2008 – or even
earlier should you want to stop by, email or call. Please remember – no matter how you make
contact, you are welcome!
I am honored to serve as
your principal. Thank you for allowing
me this opportunity to provide our students with the services that sets our
school apart from the rest.
Enjoy Spring Break!
Sincerely yours,
Adam
